This is a gentle wash of the large intestines. Colon therapy refers to irrigation of the large bowel. The gravity-fed machines are designed specifically for the Institute. Colonic irrigation is a wonderful treatment that helps to detoxify the body, remove years of accumulated wastes and poisons, and bring the colon back to its normal configuration and function. Resulting from years of faulty diet, lack of exercise and poor elimination habits, the pocket-like configuration of the bowel becomes distorted and impacted with retained waste. Oversecretion of mucous often accompanies this condition. Filth becomes trapped behind layers of mucousy secretions, thereby allowing occurrence of putrefaction, fermentation and gas formation.

This environment is most unhealthy for the bowel tissue itself. Wastes are then transmitted to the blood stream via the millions of tiny blood vessels known as capillaries which line the bowel. This morbid matter is then transmitted to other organs of the body for elimination. Eventually, they too become overburdened and disease processes in the skin, kidneys, liver and lungs take place.

It has been said from as early as the days of Hippocrates that "disease begins in the bowel." The bowel, being very much like a sewage system, must therefore be kept clean. In colon therapy only clear filtered water is used, as chemicals can be easily absorbed into the blood stream. The bowel is noted for its capacity to absorb various substances rapidly.
