There are very few agents which possess so many remedial properties as water. There are none which effect so much with so little expense to the health of the patient.
The use of water as a healing agent is not a modern discovery. The code of laws prepared by Moses under divine inspiration, made bathing a prominent feature.
Some of the many uses of water and its effects could include:
Equalization of Circulation: Poor health cannot exist without some disturbance of the circulation. In perfect health each part receives its due share of blood. If an organ contains too much blood, the application of cold water will lessen the amount of blood there. |
Regulation of Temperature: As the condition of the bodily temperature is closely associated with that of circulation, the two are usually controlled in the same manner. A part which contains too much blood has usually too high a temperature. |
Influence on the Nervous System: It is often important to effect certain organs through their nervous centers. Water properly applied will do this. An application to the abdomen will often relieve headache. The relaxing, quieting effects of the warm full bath in cases of nervous irritability are well known |
